Communications Coordinator


 

NCAC seeks a Communications Coordinator to maintain its web site, coordinate online advocacy, and oversee media relations.

Job Duties:

»  Manage NCAC’s web site, www.ncac.org, and satellite sites www.thefileroom.org and www.freeexpression.org:

  1. - Brainstorm, develop, and post content and special features
  2. - Implement strategies for increasing visibility and online giving
  3. - Maintain and build e-mail list; format and send e-mail Action Alerts
  4. - Troubleshoot technical issues
  5. - Train staff and interns to work with the site(s)
  6. - Prepare reports on site statistics

»  Field and forward incoming media inquiries, write and distribute press releases, maintain a centralized press list, and liaise with media and bloggers in support of NCAC advocacy efforts

»  Create informational materials, publications, stationery, and web graphics based on existing templates and with support from a freelance designer

»  Coordinate the layout, printing, and mailing of NCAC’s quarterly newsletter

»  Maintain and troubleshoot, in collaboration with other staff and a freelance programming consultant, NCAC’s constituent database

»  Monitor online news and blogs for items of interest (censorship controversies, legal cases, etc.); alert relevant program staff and/or post to web site as appropriate

»  Recruit and supervise student interns and volunteers in collaboration with other staff

 

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will be:

* A strong writer with excellent judgment and interpersonal skills, and the ability to juggle multiple tasks with attention to detail

* Web and media-savvy. Strong preference for candidates experienced in the management of a web site, especially that of a non-profit or advocacy organization, and familiar with online advocacy and fundraising strategies

*  Bachelor's degree or higher strongly preferred

* Proficient on both Mac and PC platforms, familiar with Adobe software (Photoshop and InDesign especially), MS Office, and database applications (such as FileMaker Pro)

*  Committed to NCAC’s core mission

* Able to work independently or as part of a team, collegial, with a sense of humor
