NCAC Censorship News Issue #62:
Gay Family Exhibit Draws Fire and Support
An art exhibit, Love Makes a Family: Living in Lesbian and Gay Families, created to depict the diversity of families, was recently attacked in Amherst, Massachusetts by opponents who brought a lawsuit to have it banned from further showings in public schools. The exhibit includes photos and text about families that include gay children or parents. The plaintiffs claimed that the display violates their religious and moral beliefs and would "irreparably harm" their children. The suit was dropped when U.S. District Court Judge Frank Freedman refused to stop the exhibit.
Gordon Hession, the plaintiffs' attorney who was formerly on the staff of the Rutherford Institute, claims that the federal courts have a "propensity to allow political and moral assaults on children."
