This Wednesday, June 3, National Coalition Against Censorship’s launches the Free Speech Leadership Council with A Conversation with Toni Morrison. Talking with Fran Lebowitz, Morrison will talk about her new book Burn This Book and her experiences with censorship.

Just recently, Morrison’s Song of Solomon was pulled – and then returned – in AP classes in Shelby, MI. This book, which President Obama listed as his favorite book, along with Morrison’s other novels have become pieces of the American literature canon. And, unfortunately, often targets of book challenges.

Even in a new administration of hope and change, there are still real threats of book censorship. There was a recent call for a public book burning in West Bend, WI.

The Council will be a new opportunity for free speech supporters to discuss intellectual and artistic freedom with leaders in this field.
