City Manager Lee Ann Dumbauld has invited local artist Lahib Jaddo to exhibit her artwork at the Buddy Holly Center.

Earlier this month, city management made the decision to restrict two of Jaddo’s drawings. The decision was consistent with the museum’s recent practices.

For the past two years, the Buddy Holly Center has operated under an unwritten no-nudes practice. “We were not aware of any objections to the informal practice until it was recently questioned,” said Dumbauld, who is in Indianapolis caring for her ill mother.

“After review of current case law, we have determined that we should not place restrictions on art exhibits at the Buddy Holly Center,” she said. “I apologize to Ms. Jaddo for the inconvenience, and I hope she will consider hosting a future exhibit at the center.”

City staff is developing a written policy regarding art exhibitions which will include provisions for notifying patrons of adult content.
