HELP US PUT A STOP TO BOOK BANNING!

NCAC’s CAMPAIGN TO SUPPORT THE RIGHT TO READ

We will raise $250,000 to support NCACs Right to Read Network. For every $25,000 milestone reached, the NCAC will commemorate the achievement by placing a Writer’s Block sculpture in a collaborating library:

San Diego County Library

Houston Public Library
TX

Oberlin Library
Wake County, NC

Lewes Public Library

Laurel Public Library

Little Rock Public Library

Your support can make a significant difference!

Writer’s Block is a sweeping representation of taking away one’s voice, a symbol of the fight for free expression.  NCAC’s work is the protection of free expression.

THE RIGHT TO READ NETWORK

NCAC’s mission is the protection of free expression for everyone. The Right to Read Network is a grassroots organizing effort to prevent the removal of books from library shelves by working with school and public library boards to create fair book challenge policies. NCAC recommits itself to our mission with the Right to Read Network.

WITHOUT THE RIGHT TO WRITE, THERE IS NO RIGHT TO SPEAK

Sheryl Oring, an artist and board member of NCAC, amassed a collection of hundreds of typewriters and encased them in sculptural forms resembling “cages. The sculpture offers a striking critique on censorship, serving as a compelling reminder of the legacy of book banning.  It represents the magnitude of the need to protect all people from censorship.
