Issue 92, Winter 2003/2004
On January 20th in New York City, NCAC will host a conversation at Coliseum Books for NCAC Friends and others featuring authors of important books and articles about the state of the First Amendment in these perilous times. The occasion is the recent publication of Outspoken by journalist and university lecturer, Nan Levinson, which profiles courageous advocates for free speech as it explores the culture wars, government secrecy, the role of dissent and the value of words and ideas in a free society. Joining her will be writer and columnist for The Nation, Katha Pollitt; and David Cole, Georgetown law professor and author of Terrorism and the Constitution and Enemy Aliens, which discusses how incursions on immigrant rights since 9/11 affect all Americans.
