The New School presents a Writers-at-Large Symposium:
"Writers of the Storm: Fake News, and Public Decency, in the Age of Terror"
Writers-at-Large, a California-based writers’ advocacy group, and The New School, are delighted to bring you a panel discussion " Writers of the Storm: Fake News and Public Decency in the Age of Terror." The forum will deal with our role, as writers, in speaking to what the concept of decency means, who gets to decide that, and why, as well as whether that decision diminishes the power of the pen, the dignity of writers, as well as the importance of diversity of opinion. This is the sister event to the panel on August 9th, at The Odyssey Theatre, in Los Angeles, and is in honor of Writers-at-Large.
Keynote: David Cay Johnston, Pulitzer Prize winning reporter for The New York Times. Prominent panelists include Danny Goldberg , CEO of Air America Radio; Arthur Kopit, Playwright, author of book from which opera "Phantom" was made; Paul Robeson, Jr., journalist and civil rights activist, Anne Waldman, poet and co-founder, with Allen Ginsberg, of the Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics at Naropa Institute; Bob Hershon, poet; and Phil Rockstroh, poet and musician; playwright, and KPFK radio host Terrence McNally will be moderating.
