At the 2011 Brooklyn Book Festival, NCAC hosted a banned books library where festival visitors read from their favorite banned or challenged book. The responses were filmed and we’re featuring them as part of Banned Books Week Virtual Readout! Check back here throughout the week for more videos.
Banned Books Week is sponsored by American Booksellers Association, American Booksellers Foundation for Free Expression, American Library Association, American Society of Journalists and Authors, Association of American Publishers, National Association of College Stores, Comic Book Legal Defense Fund, National Coalition Against Censorship, National Council of Teachers of English, PEN American Center.
NCAC’s Banned Books Read-Out was inspired by the art installation Free Speech Zone by Ligorano/Reese. FSZ consists of electronic triptychs featuring blindfolded portraits of library users and passages from censored books.
