NCAC joined more than 30 other free speech and open government groups in applauding the decision by the National Archives and Records Administration to re-open an investigation into the CIA’s destruction of videotapes recording torture session at “black sites” around the world. 

The investigation is particularly critical in light of the fact that the Department of Justice has declined to pursue criminal charges against those responsible for destroying federal records.  The NARA investigation could uncover information about official policies and practices that the American public has a right to know.
