The theme Free Speech In School (Does It Exist?) was something I felt very personally attached to, having experienced first hand that it does not. Our high school still restricts our freedom of speech rights like they\’ve never heard of Tinker v. Des Moines. I am planning on majoring in film, so I thought this contest would be a good opportunity to experiment with techniques. I used desaturated colors along with a relentless drone for the audio to help display my anger/sadness about how our freedom of speech is treated in school. I hope my message that we have not learned anything in 40 years since Tinker v. Des Moines will inspire school, including mine, to rethink their policies.
