No Starch Press, a publisher of “the finest in geek entertainment” (aka specialized technical literature), is a new supporter of the National Coalition Against Censorship and offers a creative way for others to show their support.
Until December 23rd, No Starch is donating to NCAC a generous portion of the profit from the sale of a selection of its award-winning data science ebooks.
“No Starch Press strives to create the best in technical information and we are strong supporters of electronic freedom,” No Starch Press’s Bill Pollack explains. “I’m excited to support NCAC with this bundle because I believe in their mission to support ‘freedom of thought, inquiry, and expression and oppose censorship in all its forms.’ Like any powerful technology, data science is a double-edged sword. Let us use it for good, not ill.”
The ebooks are being offered through a promotion with Humble Bundle, which sells digital content, including games and software, using a name-your-own-price model. $1 usually buys several titles, with larger selections available at $8 or $15. Many of the products are DRM-free.
The current No Starch bundle benefitting NCAC includes 15 titles with a retail value of $345, including Python Crash Course (a bestseller, now in its second edition), Bayesian Statistics the Fun Way: Understanding Statistics and Probability with Star Wars, LEGO, and Rubber Ducks, Statistics Done Wrong: The Woefully Complete Guide, Practical SQL: A Beginner’s Guide to Storytelling with Data, and The CS Detective: An Algorithmic Tale of Crime, Conspiracy, and Computation.
A significant slice of every product sold by Humble Bundle is contributed to non-profit organizations. Since its founding in 2010, it has helped raised over $156 million for hundreds of charities. It has generously supported NCAC since 2017.
“We are very grateful to No Starch Press and Humble Bundle for their support,” NCAC Executive Director Chris Finan said. “NCAC isn’t often on holiday gift lists, but look no farther for the perfect gift for that data geek in your life!”
