The National Coalition Against Censorship (NCAC) has written a letter to Broward County Public Schools District regarding the recent removal of A Day in the Life of Marlon Bundo. The book was removed because of the Broward County Public Schools District Review Committee’s belief that it is inappropriate due to its negativity towards the US government.
The NCAC demands the return of the book to school libraries as the US Supreme Court has affirmed that public schools cannot remove books from libraries because they disagree with the political views expressed in the books.
Therefore, removing the book raises serious First Amendment concerns. The NCAC calls for an evaluation of the criteria used by school officials to review materials and asks that they work to comply with law and First Amendment principles.
