Many people today think that the reality of Freedom of Speech, especially within the school system, is a joke. This video seeks to claim the positive side of our promised right, and give an example of how freedom of speech is actually “within reach”. The setting is a small public school in Columbus Ohio, called Metro High School. Metro has set up a democratic process called a town meeting in order to give students, parents, and faculty alike a source of say and vote on what happens in their school. I chose this story and topic because I personally am a student and Metro High School and think that with a little time and effort any school could employ this system. I also chose this topic to put a little light on our dim world by sharing the positive story of a school that understands the importance of the right to speak freely and have a say in the policies that make up THEIR school.
