Freedom?

By |2016-01-15T11:55:07-05:00October 23rd, 2009|Videos|

Well there is a debate one whether there is freedom of speech. I decided to bring up questions from both sides of the argument. I decided to make it a single shot. The final shot of the floor was to use the cracks on the floor around the flag as a metaphor for problems around the United States.

A Promised Freedom-Within Reach

By |2016-01-15T11:55:07-05:00October 23rd, 2009|Videos|

Many people today think that the reality of Freedom of Speech, especially within the school system, is a joke. This video seeks to claim the positive side of our promised right, and give an example of how freedom of speech is actually "within reach". The setting is a small public school in Columbus Ohio, called Metro High School. Metro has [...]

One and only

By |2016-01-15T11:55:07-05:00October 23rd, 2009|Videos|

we choose to do a music video because people remember songs easier than a documentary, that people get words to songs stuck in their heads and then they can really listen to the meaning of them. That we also wanted to show our creativity and how much we think that freedom of speech in public schools is censored so it [...]

Free Speech in School

By |2016-01-15T11:55:07-05:00October 23rd, 2009|Videos|

Free Speech in School is a documentary based on several interviews that I conducted on The Northern Arizona University campus. I chose this topic because I believe that students who are attending college can bring new ideas ,thoughts ,and idealogies through the use of their right to free speech. I strongly believe that the use and practice of free speech [...]

Freedom in Schools: Does it Exist?

By |2016-01-15T11:55:07-05:00October 23rd, 2009|Videos|

Hi! My name is Rachel Victor. When I found out about this contest, I was really excited, because "Freedom in Schools" is a topic that I'm really interested in. I wanted to find out whether or not students whose views were politically incorrect were discriminated against. What I found out shocked me. All across America there are those whose freedom [...]

Have We Learned Anything?

By |2016-01-15T11:55:07-05:00October 23rd, 2009|Videos|

The theme Free Speech In School (Does It Exist?) was something I felt very personally attached to, having experienced first hand that it does not. Our high school still restricts our freedom of speech rights like they\'ve never heard of Tinker v. Des Moines. I am planning on majoring in film, so I thought this contest would be a good [...]

The Search for Passion

By |2016-01-15T11:55:07-05:00October 23rd, 2009|Videos|

Our film is a look into the lives of the youth that participate in competitve forensics, and how that activity serves as a method of communication. We both chose this as our representation of free speech in school because of the amount of freedom that the activity provides. We believe that speech and debate is a great tool to voice [...]

My Personal Censor

By |2016-01-15T11:55:07-05:00October 23rd, 2009|Videos|

I learned about my first amendment rights in school, and ironically this is where I learned about the subtle, and not so subtle ways in which they are breached. This video focuses on the way young and malleable brains internalize censorship. The visual metaphor is a series of dark looming figures which appear behind students when they are shamed for [...]

One Question

By |2016-01-15T11:55:07-05:00October 23rd, 2009|Videos|

In my film I interviewed students and teachers at my school. I did this to see how different people respond to the same question. I came up the idea to have them ask the question "Does it exist?" as if they were asking the next person. At the end of the film I recorded various places in my school and [...]

Free Speech

By |2016-01-15T11:55:08-05:00October 22nd, 2009|Videos|

My experimental film is about the students that try to make themselves known and express themselves but don't because of the fear that has been implanted into them by superiors. The reason I chose this topic is because this story is one of the many that go out unnoticed. What I want to do is raise awareness to other people [...]

Speak

By |2016-01-15T11:55:08-05:00October 22nd, 2009|Videos|

My entry for the "Free Speech in School (Does it Exist?)" contest is an original short film, titled “Speak”. I was trying to find a way how I could get students to be able speak. I was stumbled on this, but one night it came to me. Why does it have to stop at the school? Why can't we voice [...]

We the Students

By |2016-01-15T11:55:08-05:00October 22nd, 2009|Videos|

I knew from the start that I wanted to make a documentary for this project because it's more affective when dealing with issues. I shot about an hour and a half of interviews with people who I believed would have the most input and I went to both a community college and state university to get a wider range of [...]

Kantor vs. Free Speech

By |2016-01-15T11:55:08-05:00October 22nd, 2009|Videos|

Kantor vs. Free Speech is about my creative writing teacher, Mr. Kantor, who controls the class through cruel and unusual powers. Kantor dictates the class by giving exaggerated punishments while the students' mouths are duct taped shut. The duct tape represents the barrier that is placed on free speech in the classrooms. I wanted to make this a very symbolic [...]

Freedom of Speech

By |2016-01-15T11:55:08-05:00October 22nd, 2009|Videos|

My name is Sebastian Sommer and I love to film movies with my friends. When I found out about this contest I told them my idea and we got together after school, brainstorming concepts that relate to the topic. I eventually came up with the idea of a "what if" film. What would happen if all of our freedom of [...]

Voice in School

By |2016-01-15T11:55:08-05:00October 22nd, 2009|Videos|

Your film is a documentary, we chose this form because we wanted to hear from the youth, not just one but as many as we could, to get a full grasp of the matter. We tried to get the truth, we didn't want to candy coat it, or shift it to one perspective. We wanted to inform, and tell the [...]

School, the Marketplace of Ideas

By |2016-01-15T11:55:08-05:00October 22nd, 2009|Videos|

Does free expression exist in schools? I decided to film a documentary addressing Constitutional rights and an example of free expression used in schools from history. Such an educational approach seemed fitting for the content of the video. All scenes are filmed in or near the high school I am currently attending, and everyone participating in the project was either [...]

The Ballerino

By |2016-01-15T11:55:08-05:00October 22nd, 2009|Videos|

It is a short piece using pictures to visually display the beauty of ballet. Through the video, the dancer interviewed describes to us how dance is a form of expression. It is a way for the dancer to reveal his own feelings but also the movement of dance allows a creative expression of thought and idea. I find the artistry [...]

Outside the Box

By |2016-01-15T11:55:08-05:00October 22nd, 2009|Videos|

This draw it's inspiration from one of my old teachers Mr. Ray Archer who taught us to question everything and to always think for ourselves. I feel that the film is reminicant of the old Pink Floyd music videos as it requires a willing suspension of disbelief. The prompt for this contest ignited the idea for the project, but I [...]

REVOLUTION

By |2016-01-15T11:55:08-05:00October 22nd, 2009|Videos|

Revolution is a "mockumentary" style short film which looks at the theme of Freedom of Speech in Schools in a quirky, satirical way. In it, two young filmmakers set out to find unique students who can express their views on their school and its treatment of the aforementioned theme. They decide on an art class in a Phoenix high school, [...]

We’ve Been Muted

By |2016-01-15T11:55:08-05:00October 21st, 2009|Videos|

"We’ve Been Muted" is a short commercial made to draw attention to the increasing lack of freedom in our schools today, namely our freedom of speech. In this video, students are displayed in a school setting with their mouths duct-taped closed and controversial issues written across them. These words (and the scene with the teacher instructing her class, utilizing only [...]

To An Extent.

By |2016-01-15T11:55:08-05:00October 21st, 2009|Videos|

The title of the film comes from the fact that when most people are asked if there is freedom of speech in school, they will answer “to an extent.” The premise that our freedoms are limited to a degree is bothersome and frustrating and proved to be a compelling topic for this short film. This video is in documentary style [...]

Free Speech

By |2016-01-15T11:55:08-05:00October 21st, 2009|Videos|

I didn't want just the students opinion on Free speech in School (Does it Exist?) so I also ask some of the staff members their opinion. I chose this topic so both students and staff members had a chance to voice their opinion without anyway saying, "You can't say or talk about that here".

Free Speech Talk Show

By |2016-01-15T11:55:08-05:00October 21st, 2009|Videos|

It is debatable whether free speech exists in schools, so I decided to portray this topic through a talk show. In my film Free Speech Talk Show, Elena Diego is the host and she interviews three people that have different backgrounds and opinions on free speech. My goal was to present these different but genuine opinions, so they could be [...]

Diddy’s Life

By |2016-01-15T11:55:08-05:00October 18th, 2009|Videos|

What you will see in this film is my friend that looks like hip hop mogul pdiddy. We made an episode of Diddy's Life where we explore and basically make fun of it to have some fun at college. We have many videos including making the band spoofs and all i have many videos, i jus thought this one could [...]

Freedom of Speech

By |2016-01-15T11:55:08-05:00October 14th, 2009|Videos|

My film is about freedom of speech. It covers what freedom of speech means to students and how our rights have been violated. I chose this because it\'s a subject very close to my heart. We have the right to express our opinions and no one, absolutely no one has the right to take that away from us.

Six Angry Students

By |2016-01-15T11:55:08-05:00October 14th, 2009|Videos|

My film, Six Angry Students, is based on the play Twelve Angry Men by Reginald Rose. The film takes place in a school debate club, in which six students are asked to take a vote on whether or not they believe there is free speech in school. Five of the students vote in favor of free speech, however, one student, [...]

Free Speech At Gateway

By |2016-01-15T11:55:08-05:00October 12th, 2009|Videos|

Hello, my name is TeVin Page, and I used this video to express my feelings about how my school expects us to produce our best at any cost. They want their students to always say how they feel, and never hold back. I love this about my school because we are able to put in our own input on our [...]

Together As One

By |2016-01-15T11:55:08-05:00October 9th, 2009|Videos|

Without giving students or any individual a chance to say how they feel, the world wouldn't be where it is at today. For example, Martin Luther King; His speech was so powerful that he got a whole croud to agree with him. They all analyzed their thoughts and ideas. Also, freedom of speech allows a group to make a difference. [...]

Free Speech in Schools

By |2016-01-15T11:55:09-05:00October 2nd, 2009|Videos|

My film is a documentary; I interviewed students in my school about whether or not they thought there was free speech in schools. I interviewed six students; originally my plan was to interview more students, but the students I interviewed provided much more in-depth answers than I expected. Therefore, I ended up needing less interviews. Freedom of speech is important [...]
